Make sure your passport and visa are up to date
Many countries demand your passport to be credible for six months after your return date. The State Department suggests renewing your passport not less than nine months early it’s set to expire. Check the expiration of your passport and if it is about to expire then contact your nearest passport services. Tourist visas are necessary to visit many countries around the world and every country has a different application process. Hence, apply for the necessary visa processes. Make a Xerox copy of your passport and the visa pages of your destination. Pack them separately from your passport. Find out if there are any travel warnings or advisories. Check whether your country has issued any long-term or short-term any travel warning or travel alerts regarding your destination place.
Bring copies of your passport
In case you lose your passport or it gets stolen make sure you have an extra copy of your passport with you so that you can show verification regarding your citizenship and get back to your country safely. Also, for additional backup, consider leaving a copy of your passport at home and also consider preparing an electronic copy and store it in your email account. Along with this, register with your embassy so that if something transpires, your government can contact you easily and get you to safety.
Vaccination and Prescriptions:
Find out the health information and vaccination requirements of your destination on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Consult your doctor and ensure that you have all the vaccination you need. Also if you take any routine vaccines make sure that you have them in abundance to last the whole trip. Carry photocopies of your prescriptions, placed in a separate bag. In addition to this, check-in with your insurance provider whether your policy is applicable for overseas emergencies. It is possible that your health insurance may not be applicable in the country where you are traveling to. Buy travel insurance (emergency medical insurance) on the basis of the country you are visiting.
Make sure you know the conversion rate of the place where you are traveling to. Also, ensure that your credit card works there and contact your card providers to inform them about your trip (destination); check the country’s entry/exit expenses.
Don’t carry expensive valuables with you as that could attract unwanted attention (especially thieves). If you do carry prized possessions, then always put them in carry-on bags. Only take the necessary credit cards with you and leave extra cards at home.
Most importantly, before visiting any foreign place, read its guidebook and research about various customs and history of that place. Learn the common phrases in their language like “Thank You”, “Hello”, etc.
